Raising Fish & Vegetables
Since
the massive deforestation of Haiti over the last century, the need for developing new methods of
raising quality food in Haiti has been largely overlooked.
GloryWorks is now working in conjunction with Hope4Haiti, led by Russell Cox in Purcellville, Virginia,
to research and develop a pilot aquaponic project. Under the direction of
Hope4Haiti's founder, Russell Cox, our goal is to provide both tilapia fish and
quality vegetables to produce high protein and healthy food.
The food will be used to feed our Kingdom Kids, their families, and our neighborhood of Meyotte.
Just What Is It?
Aquaponics is a food production system that combines traditional
aquaculture (raising fish in tanks) with hydroponics (growing plants in water).
Put the two words together and you have aquaponics!
When the fish
produce waste, instead of cleaning the tank, the water is led
into hydroponic vegetable beds, where the plants consume the fish wastes as
fertilizer! Once the eater is cleansed, it then circulates back to the fish
tank!
A self-contained system producing high-protein fish and healthy vegetables!
Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated.
